Food Shortage in America
Dec. 6th, 2007 02:58 pmApparently the current economic crunch means that the people who tend to give the most money in total (the middle class) isnt, and its hurting a ton of charities.
Even the gov't is looking to pass emergency aid to help them out.
Sen. Sherrod Brown is trying to get funding for Ohio, but from quick googling, it looks like a lot of places are having the same problem, including here in SF and down in Los Angeles.
This means that food banks around the country are having to turn people away or are running out of food. Rather then get me a card or a christmas present, and maybe others can join me with this -- please give money, food, etc to your local food bank. I'm fortunate beyond measure that I have some money, and my friends are keeping a roof over my head, and I have enough to eat.
Changing the word 'hunger' to 'food insecurity' doesnt change that here in the United States of America, children go to bed without enough food still. Of all the wrongs in the world that we cannot change, this is one we can alleviate for sure.
Monday afternoon, there is an event near Union Square, and someone I havent met in real life yet mentioned it:
http://www.templeofpoi.com/events/sffb07.php
I'll be going -- 1. because I've never SEEN poi dancing 2. I'm a fan of the concept.
So think about it. I'm going to ask my folks if we can go through their pantry and donate food this xmas.
