Just before leaving on my grand adventure, I started hearing a clicking noise when I make hard left turns. Not all the time. Now today, I hear it all the time -- I'm taking the car to a shop this weekend, but I sorta suspect it might be the CV joint in the front. Now I really have NO IDEA what that means -- does it just need to be repacked and regreased, or do I have to replace parts of the axle?
so:
1. more info on the intraweb that would be useful for me would be great
2. anyone have an idea how much this is going to cost me?
its a 2003 Toyota Matrix XR with 82,000 miles on it. The last major service it had was at 60K miles and included:
Replace engine air filter |
Replace engine coolant |
Replace engine oil and oil filter |
Rotate tires |
Inspect the following: |
| Ball joints and dust covers | | | Brake lines and hoses | | | Brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs | | | Differential oil | | | Drive belts | | | Drive shaft boots | | | Engine valve clearance | | | Exhaust pipes and mountings | | | Fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses | | | Fuel tank cap gasket | | | Radiator core and condenser | | | Steering gear box | | | Steering linkage and boots | | | Transfer case oil (4WD) | | | Transmission fluid or oil | |
and everything but the brakes was cool, and I had all the fluids flushed. After that, every 3K miles or so, it gets an oil change. The next major service is supposed to be at 90K miles.
I dont want to take it to a Toyota dealer, because they TOTALLY overcharged for the fluids flushing and wanted to charge me over 400$ for the brakes, which were done at brakemaster's for 135$....
