At least for me. :)

Friday night involved a very nice traveling date with cheese, dessert, awesome conversation and joyful connection. I'm a fortunate wolf indeed.

Friday night also involved waking up to [livejournal.com profile] phoenixdufeu screaming to find out Beans wasnt doing his job hunting spiders. liltranquil took care of it for [livejournal.com profile] phoenixdufeu - poor girls!

Saturday morning: Serpentine with red flannel hash! and biscuits! Turns out if I'd thought to call [livejournal.com profile] byronium , I coulda had _his_ biscuits. But he was nice enough to have made extra and brought them over at noon, when we headed out to Coyote Hills. We were supposed to try for a 30 mile bicycle ride, as it was mostly flat, and I wasnt sure I could manage it, but thought I'd try!

The first thing that was bad for me was my chest hurt - we've been packing up and the dust, etc was really bugging me! :( I was hoping I wasnt coming down with a cold. The second was time, and I was pre-cranky on the ride about it.

Originally, a bunch of us had wanted to go see '9' Saturday night, and the plan had been (I thought) for byronium and I to call when we were heading back to give everyone about 2 to 2.5 hours notice that we'd been meeting at Zazul in the Westfield Mall for dinner and drinks before catching one of the many showings that night... but just before we arrived in Coyote Hills, I get a txt telling me that folks were meeting at 5 pm - and I knew there was no way we could do a 30 mile ride, go home, shower change and be in downtown SF by 5pm.. :/ sent txts back and prepared for the ride.

So heading out, camelbacks full, water bottles filled with cytomax, sugar goo, and cliff bars at the ready, as well as pre-ride hits of inhaler...

First part of the ride is a long sloooow hill. Byronium pulls away immediately, and when I get to the top of the hill, slightly out of breath, my quads warmed up, I dont see him. I see down the hill two long roads in two different directions, and at the top of the hill, where I am, another divergence...

I pick one (the one that doesnt have me going downhill) and continue around it, to start feeling like I"m going in he wrong direction. I stop, turn around, and see Byronium on the long path down the marsh. I'm SO MAD in this moment - "wait! did he see me? where is he going?!?" and I race down the hill and on the long path on the marsh... right into a headwind so hard I'm pumping away, eyes tearing and watering. *pedal pedal pedal... *grumpgrumpgrump... where is he? I dont even see him anymore! this headwind is awful, I'm so mad....

I see another bicyclist coming back wearing a red shirt similar to mine and wave to him and finally see byronium heading back my way... *grumps at him until I realize he had been chasing the OTHER cyclist thinking it was me going the wrong way...*

awww!

And I'd apparently not seen him due to the hill I was on somehow hiding where he was, he thought he'd seen me heading downhill, and had started going the correct way until he caught a glimpse of the other red-shirted rider going the wrong way. (I would blame mercury retrograde if I could, but I was already pretty grumpy.)

We kissed and made up and headed back in the correct direction, with a tailwind making it feel like I was flying.

I did about 9.5 or so miles, where we stopped to watch some RC watercraft, and I checked the time and my legs. If I'd felt like I could have done another 10 miles, I'd have said, "screw 5 pm, we're going!" but knowing I had a long motorcycle ride on Sunday as well as wanting some time with friends, I asked if we could turn back. We adjusted my seat height a little higher, and turned around, after watching the RC boats doing flips and tricks.

Going back was a little tougher, into a headwind again, and the only really scarey part of my ride occured here. Parts of the trail go under bridges, so they actually narrow a bit, and go steep downhill and back uphill under the bridge. I thought of trolls and scarey things each time I ducked under, but the scariest were the two bicyclists who were heading downhill from the other direction as I was coming uphill from mine... the two bicyclists who thought riding on a narrow bridge crossing two abreast was a good idea. A quick glance showed some bad options - off the trail into the piles of rocks lining the side of the marsh, or straight into the two riders. or into the bridge itself. Is it bad that I aimed for the riders? For the spot I should have been going all along, figuring I was going to take out the two numbskulls vs diving into the rocks? Maybe they'd break my fall?

They narrowly missed me, by one slowing just enough to slide in behind his buddy (more like front and back wheels almost touching) as I pedaled furiously to get past them....

I was kinda sick to my stomach with that. :/

Pedaled and caught up to a waiting [livejournal.com profile] byronium [livejournal.com profile] byronium , who smooched my head - this makes many things better, btw. We made it back to the car with no incident, making it up the one steep hill in good spirits! I had drank all my cytomax, and we'd shared a gu, and my blood sugar _was_ dropping still, so I had some of these wonderful biscuits. All in all, tho, really pleased with how I'm fitting on the bicycle, how its working on longer distances, how doing 20 miles didnt wipe me out UTTERLY, but that even today, I'm pleasantly awake to my body.

Drove back up to the city, txting like made, so that folks knew we were looking more like 6 pm - only to find out that the original person who'd said 5 to everyone may not even be making it. :/ Too cranky making for words. B and I get ready for the movie, and I hope people show up. We pick up phoenixdufeu just to make sure someone is coming! rhiannonstone took a break from her holiday shopping and minivacation to join us and eventually (after we'd finished dinner) basmati and jong joined us. Dinner was actually really great - I had two different margaritas, and a great spicy crab soup.

Conversation was fun - but not enough of it, forgot that zazul was so noisy.

'9' was great - I mean, visually and storywise, I really enjoyed it. I'm considering how to make a '7' costume for halloween.
[livejournal.com profile] byronium did his job again, holding my hand, and I fear I squished it a lot.

Said goodbye, dropped phoenixdufeu home, and passed out! That was a long bicycle ride! :)

byronium woke me up early enough so that we could have breakfast at Toast. I know he loves it, the square hashbrowns, but my stomach is starting to rebel against the grease. I really wanted red flannel hash again.

But then, home, to get dressed into all my leather. mmm. I havent done that in far too long. It reminds me I _have_ to take the jacket into Dianese to see what they can do to fix the sleeves. Duct-taped the broken bits of my fairing more completely together, and put zip ties where they were needed, and headed on out to Pescadero the hard way...

280 to Skyline to 92 to 35 (skyline) - stopped to txt that I was 13 miles from Alice's, which I then reached in about 15 minutes, stopped to get gas, and headed on down 84 to Pescadero Road. Zoom! So much fun! I basically found the Goat Farm from memory, tho I'd glanced at a map a few days earlier.  (hey, I have a gps! I can call someone with a GPS! and a map!)

Meet up at the lunch spot with byronium and llamaeyes. The looks on people's faces was sort of funny, seeing a biker gal with pigtails... lunch was great! I had a crab salad melt that was really yummy, and bites of artichoke soup, also yum.

Then, off to the goat farm. Byronium and llamaeyes brought their cameras, we had fun interactions with baby goats, with llamas named Bert who like kissing boys, and meeting chickens in chicken tractors. (I so want one of these for my backyard!)

My leathers are completely covered in goat fur. they liked chewing on the velcro and hanging zipper pulls, and butting heads on my kneepucks. :)

Bough some amazing cheese, both chevre and some amazing ricotta, handed that to byronium and hopped on the motorcycle to meet them in Woodside to find the Honey Guy...

This part of the ride was SO MUCH FUN.

Finally warmed up and remembered how to DO it RIGHT. I was doing really really well, including decreasing radius right hand turns. Uphills and downhills were also getting tons easier.

Met up with llamaeyes and byronium at Woodside near Alice's Resturant, bought some awesome honey, handed it to byronium, and hopped back on the motorcycle after a few big raindrops hit my head. I think I got back to 280 even faster from woodside than I got there, the fear of rain taking away the last distraction of monkey brain...

Home, to shower the smell of goat off of me, to hang out a bit with phoenixdufeu before taking some cans of soup and an idea over to byronium. He had to work (boo!) so I made more biscuits! and we had soup and biscuits for dinner.

And played Beatles RockBand! whoo! I'm completely songvirused today by Beatles songs.
