This weekend, two days of bicycling, tho Sat was short for me - I borrowed [livejournal.com profile] byronium  's Rocky Mtn Bike, only to find that its REALLY too big for me. Getting on a full suspension bike that was too big and on trails I wasnt used to seemed a bad idea - coupled with a couple of health issues where I was dizzy and having a little trouble concentrating. Instead I spent the afternoon looking at cranes in the water and knitting a hat, sitting in the sun while he went out and got his new specialized stumpjumper fsxr xprt COMPLETELY muddy and filthy. He looked so happy I just laughed and had a really great moment of compersion for him.
Riding in mud is INTERESTING. I look forward to trying it on my old Trek in a few weeks.

Saturday night turned into an inpromptu party with [livejournal.com profile] llamaeyes , [livejournal.com profile] littletranquil , RR, and another friend of theirs descending on Byronium's place - originally for spagetti carbonara, but ended up also making chicken parmesean as well (for me! I can't have carbonara!)

That was a little crazy and fun. :)

Sunday morning, up earlyish to get to Golden Gate Park by 930 am to do another road ride. I wanted to go up Arguello, which is a really steep hill, and up to Land's End and back down to the park by 1130 am, to meet another group of riders who wanted to do an easier ride through the park.

I'm having trouble unclipping out of my pedals, and especially so on a hill. :( I've realized that my shoes are too big and its hard to get the sideways motion to get out of the clips. (I'm a size 42, not a size 43!)  This was a problem going up arguello when I had an asthma attack, couldnt clip out of my pedals and realized that I was going to be unable to pedal to a flat spot to stop. I grabbed onto a lexus suv's mirror to stop myself and hold myself up until I could unclip and get my inhaler. Now of course, the walk of shame up this hill, because its too steep for me to get back on the bike and start pedaling...

The rest of the ride was good, tho I did crash one more time - at stop sign, everyone had stopped, and I only unclipped from one cleat, and when I put my foot down, it cramped up and I ended up falling over ontop of another cyclist. I fell over her back wheel, managed somehow not to knock her over.

Ow. My pride was more hurt than anything else (I wacked my forearm) and landed on my ass.

But, we did do about 20 miles, including some really long hills. My goal next trip out is to get up earlier, and start this ride at the time I'd do it when I would be for the bike ride coming up. I want to try and do this route twice and get up the hills without stopping - I think this is doable in the next few weeks. :)

The great part about riding thru golden gate - waterfalls, flower gardens, gorgeous views of the Golden Gate Bridge, and the ocean, windmills and bison! I really like it.

Came home to find my blood sugar was doing _awesome_ - had a burrito for lunch, rice and chicken and french onion soup for dinner, and plenty of leftovers for the week.

Taking monday off from exercise, but making certain I get some saddle time in this week.

DLT changes next weekend! maybe means I can do actual bike rides in the evenings after works.

I've been having a lot of trouble with my fasting blood sugars being really high - partly due to my eczema acting up and needing to use more steriodal creams, and partly something is changing - its time to get to the endo again - there's also a chance I can go on the once a week Byetta and maybe get off of insulin for a bit.
