I have owned my own carpet cleaner ever since we bought the "new build" out in Castaic in 1999(new carpets and no initial landscaping and spring...yey!). It's one of those ones that operates like a vacuum and costs about 100 (maybe 200) dollars depending upon where you purchase it (I suggest Kmart or Target...unles you have a Costco or Sam's Club membership, then price there). With the remodel on the San Pedro house, we did not get new carpets until relatively recently. And cleaning carpets when you're tearing down and putting up walls and ceilings just seemed rather silly.
However, one of the last things I did to the San Pedro house, after the movers had packed and taken everything away, was go rent one of those . . . err . . . rentals . . . from the Von's supermarket.
It was *SO* worth it! Not just because I did not want to haul the machine I owned cross-country in the Explorer but because it did such a fabulous job! And I *do* mean
F A B U L O U S ! ! !
Go with the rental!!!
It's well worth it for intense cleaning. If you require "ongoing" cleaning (such as we sometimes do because of the cats and dogs and mud and such), then the vacuum-like models are worth the investment.
Oh, this is going to sound like a commercial, but . . . if you're attempting to remove organics (including grass, vomit, urine, poo, blood) I recommend a product called Petzyme which is the PetSmart brand of kitty/doggie cleanup stuff. I can't say enough good things about it and it's the ONLY product I've ever used that gets out kitty vomit!
Get the rental!
